Potential Kyler Murray Injury Recovery Timeline Revealed
Updated:
The Arizona Cardinals have been preparing for their Week 11 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers with a major question mark at quarterback. On Monday, it was revealed starter Kyler Murray would likely be out for this primetime contest due to his hamstring injury, clearing the way for backup Colt McCoy to take over under center once again.
Now it turns out McCoy could remain as QB1 for another game.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Murray "might not return" until after Arizona's bye in Week 13. That would mean he may miss next Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers as well before suiting up in Week 14 against the New England Patriots.
A very similar situation played out like this last season. Murray missed three contests with an ankle sprain, which led to McCoy earning the start and going 2-1 in his stead.
McCoy being one of the league's best backups is certainly a luxury for the Cards, who won't need to rush their starter back if he's not ready. The 36-year-old was solid filling in for Murray last Sunday, throwing for 238 yards and 1 touchdown in a comfortable 27-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
It'll almost certainly be McCoy under center for Arizona on Monday night in Mexico City. The Cardinals are 9.5-point underdogs ahead of kickoff, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
