Pete Alonso Home Run Derby Stats and History (How Many Has He Won?)

Updated:

Another summer brings with it another Home Run Derby. One player who's no stranger to this slugfest is Pete Alonso, and he's set to return to the event once again this year.

Before Alonso competes, here's everything you need to know about his stats and history at the MLB Home Run Derby.

Pete Alonso Home Run Derby Stats and History

The 2023 Home Run Derby will mark Pete Alonso's fourth appearance in the marquee event. He previously participated in the 2019, 2021 and 2022 derbies. Alonso won the derby title in both 2019 and 2021, while making the semifinals in 2022.

In 2019, Alonso posted a total of 57 homers en route to his derby win. He advanced past the first round with 14 dingers, then followed that up with 20 in Round 2. The New York Mets first baseman then faced Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the finals, and beat him by achieving 23 HRs.

In 2021, Alonso returned to defend his crown after the 2020 event was canceled. The 1B went on to become just the third player ever to post back-to-back Home Run Derby wins after he totaled a whopping 74 HRs, including 23 in the finals to fend off Trey Mancini.

Alonso's attempt to three-peat at the 2022 Home Run Derby fell short, however. The 2-seed narrowly defeated 7-seed Ronald Acuna Jr. 20-19 in Round 1 to advance. Alonso was then matched up with 6-seed Julio Rodriguez, and the defending champion was knocked off by a score of 31-23.

In total, Pete Alonso has hit 174 HRs across three career Home Run Derby appearances, which is an average of 58.0 per outing. He's made it past the first round all three previous times he's participated, and won both times he's advanced to the finals.
