Panthers Get Disappointing Chuba Hubbard Injury Update Prior to Week 8 Game Against Falcons

The Carolina Panthers backfield is getting thinner and thinner by the week. After trading Christian McCaffrey ahead of Week 7, the team saw Chuba Hubbard go down with a concerning ankle injury. He has since been ruled out for Week 8, leaving veteran D'Onta Foreman to serve as the No. 1 RB.

Chuba Hubbard Injury Update

Hubbard's status has been leaning toward this result after he was unable to practice at at all this past week. The second-year pro went down late in the team's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but reports suggested the injury could be minor. Instead, Hubbard will be sidelined for at least one game.

It's a big blow for Carolina considering the Oklahoma State product split carries with Foreman in Week 7. Hubbard rushed for 63 yards and 1 touchdown on 9 carries, while also adding 10 receiving yards on 2 catches. He played in 23 offensive snaps after playing in just 30 across the first six weeks.

Foreman will be the workhorse on Sunday and has a chance to ball out against an Atlanta Falcons team that has posted the seventh-worst rush defense DVOA rating in the NFL. The 26-year-old totaled 145 yards on 17 touches against the Bucs and his efforts were highlighted with a 60-yard run.

Rookie Raheem Blackshear will serve as Foreman's backup after he rushed for -5 yards on 2 carries in Week 7 (5 snaps). Veteran fullback John Lovett could also be a game day elevation after being signed to the Panthers' practice squad earlier in the week. He is best known for his pass/run blocking skills.
