Packers' Most Recent Trade Offer for Darren Waller Revealed
Updated:
After years of trade rumors, tight end Darren Waller was finally dealt on Tuesday by the Las Vegas Raiders. However, it wasn't to a team that most expected. The New York Giants acquired the Pro Bowl talent in exchange for a compensatory third-round pick.
It turns out the Raiders sold lower on Waller than what they were offered by the Green Bay Packers, who had pursued the TE last offseason and again during the 2022 campaign.
Darren Waller Trade
According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Green Bay came to the table with a second-round pick to trade for Waller ahead of this past November's deadline. However, Las Vegas declined the offer, only to later ship him off for less.
What's particularly interesting about this reveal is the Packers also reportedly offered their second-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers at the deadline for Chase Claypool. Brian Gutekunst was unable to pull off either deal, though, and the team went on to miss the playoffs.
Hindsight says Green Bay dodged a bullet given that Waller had the worst season of his career as a starter in 2022. The oft-injured TE also missed eight games due to more health issues, which are too much to ignore despite his obvious skill.
