2023 Ohio Derby Post Positions, Jockeys and Trainers

Post time for Race 12 and the 1 1/8 mile Ohio Derby is 6:20 p.m. ET. The late pick four includes all stakes races with Race 9 starting at 4 p.m. The eight-horse field for the Ohio Derby includes Kentucky Derby runner-up Two Phil's (8/5).

Ohio Derby Picks

Low payoff potential in this year's Ohio Derby. Horse Racing Nation's Super Screener notes that Two Phil’s went into the Kentucky Derby as its second choice, and upon review of the race his performance was the best of any other horse in the race. He was the lone survivor running along the lead of a demanding pace, and held up to finished second.

Late-developing Bishops Bay is his only real threat in the race. Bishops Bay enjoyed all the pace advantage in the Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes but he could not out-duel the eventual Belmont Stakes winner Arcangelo. The pace in this race projects to clock in at a few points faster than par with moderate pace pressure. Henry Q should strike to the front. He won a minor stakes in Feb. and finished 3rd in both the Sunland Derby and Peter Pan Stakes.

Hayes Strike is off a Texas Derby win last month and he can rally late to get a piece of the superfecta or potentially more.
