NHL All-Star Game 2023 Schedule, Time and Format

Updated:

Hockey fans are buzzing with anticipation as NHL All-Star Weekend 2023 in Florida draws closer by the day. The All-Star Game tournament is obviously the highlight of the festivities, putting the league's best in the spotlight.

With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about the upcoming NHL All-Star Game.

NHL All-Star Game Schedule and Time

NHL All-Star Weekend kicks off with the Skills Competition on Friday, Feb 3 from 7-10 p.m. ET. This event features several of the sport's top names facing off in unique drills like hardest shot, fastest skater and breakaway challenge.

Then the NHL All-Star Game tournament takes place on Saturday, Feb. 4. The first game will be played at 3 p.m. ET, followed by the second at 4 p.m. ET. The final, featuring the two winning squads, is slated for 5 p.m. ET

The Skills Competition will air on ESPN, while every exhibition from the All-Star Game tournament is set to air on ABC and ESPN. Viewers can also stream all of the NHL All-Star Weekend action on ESPN+.

NHL All-Star Game Format 2023

Starting in 2016, the NHL adopted a single-elimination tournament for its All-Star Game rather than a one-off exhibition. Instead of two teams based on the conferences, there are now four teams that represent each division (Central, Pacific, Metro, Atlantic).

These matches are 3-on-3 with 10-minute halves. If the game is tied after the 20 minutes are up, it heads straight to a three-round (or more) shootout to crown a winner.

Matchups will be determined in part by the Skills Competition on Friday. Whichever division wins that event gets to choose its opponent for its first game on Saturday.

NHL All-Star Break Dates

The final games before the NHL All-Star break will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Then players will be off from Thursday, Feb. 2 until Sunday, Feb. 5. Play then kicks back up on Monday, Feb. 6 with 12 teams in action.

Ahead of the break, the Boston Bruins are the favorite at +500 to win the championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's Stanley Cup odds.
