NFL London Games History, Location & Schedule for 2022

The NFL officially returns to London in Week 4 of the 2022 season with an exciting matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints. This won't be the only game played in the UK this year, though, as there's several other International matchups to look forward to as well.

Here's everything you need to know about the 2022 NFL London Games.

Why Are NFL Games Played in London?

The NFL had previous initiatives that helped promote the game around the world, like the American Bowl (preseason games held internationally) and a Europe-based developmental league. When those efforts eventually fell through, the league explored hosting regular-season games in new locations.

The success of the first NFL game held outside of the United States in 2005 in Mexico paved the way for more international games to become a fixture of the annual schedule. London became an obvious host city gives the market and connection to the region through the then-extinct NFL Europe league.

When Did the NFL Start Playing in London?

The first NFL game in London took place in 2007. That matchup featured the Miami Dolphins as the "home" team against the New York Giants. New York won the contest 13-10.

One London game was held every season from 2007-2011 before expanding to two matchups in 2012. The series then expanded to three games in 2014 and added new venues in addition to the mainstay Wembley Stadium.

Where is the NFL Game in London Played?

From 2007-2015, the NFL games in London were played exclusively at Wembley Stadium. Twickenham Stadium, a well-known rugby venue, joined the rotation in 2016 alongside Wembley, but only served as a host for two seasons.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium replaced Twickenham as a venue in 2019 and remains part of the host rotation to this day, along with Wembley.

This season, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host the first two London games on Oct. 2 and Oct. 9, and Wembley will host the final contest on Oct. 30.

What NFL Teams are Playing in London

After only two games were held in London in 2021, the NFL will move back to its regular three matchups in 2022, so six teams will play in the UK this year. Those squads are the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Vikings, Saints and Giants are all making their third appearances in London. Denver, meanwhile, is making its second appearance after losing in 2010 to the San Francisco 49ers. The Packers are a newcomer to the UK after never playing here before.

Jacksonville has been a mainstay of the NFL London Games, making a league-leading eight appearances since they first played in the UK in 2013. They own an all-time record of 4-4 in London.

• Sunday, Oct. 9, 9:30 a.m. ET: New York Giants vs Green Bay Packers (at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium)
• Sunday, Oct. 30, 9:30 a.m ET: Denver Broncos vs Jacksonville Jaguars (at Wembley Stadium)

Matchups in the UK will take place in back-to-back weeks, with the Vikings vs Saints in Week 4 and Giants vs Packers in Week 5. Then after a brief break, the Broncos and Jagaurs will close things out in Week 8.

NFL London Games TV Coverage

For viewers in the US, TV coverage of the NFL London Games is pretty straightforward. NFL Network and streaming service NFL+ will exclusively air the Vikings vs Saints game, as well as Giants vs Packers. Then ESPN+ will serve as the broadcaster of Broncos vs Jaguars in Week 8.
