Monmouth Park Racing Picks for Saturday 6/17/23

Updated:

Starting at 12:40 p.m. ET, we have 14 races Saturday at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. That includes four big stakes races.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather, and track conditions with a 60% chance of rain in the forecast.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

According to numberFire Racing's projections and Guaranteed Tip Sheet, these are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing.

1. Gina Romantica and Consumer Spending, Race 11

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 7/2

Race 11 is the $150,000 Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Gina Romantica (3/1) and Consumer Spending (7/2) are top win contenders. Both are conditioned by top trainer Chad Brown with Consumer Spending ridden by leading jockey Samy Camacho.
Guaranteed Tip Sheet likes those two to challenge, and also makes Spirit And Glory (6/1) and Scottish Star (6/1) win contenders with the latter trained by Todd Pletcher and top jockey Luis Saez riding.

2. Nimitz Class and Petulante, Race 12

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 9/2

Race 12 is the $150,000 Grade 3 Salvator Mile. Top win contenders, according to numberFire and GTS are Petulante (9/2) with Luis Saez riding, and Artorius (3/1), who has been off since October and is trained by Chad Brown. Nimitz Class (7/2) will be running on the lead and could challenge for the win and complete the exacta and trifecta. Nimitz Class owns the best speed profile in this race and even the swifter fractions expected here will be within his comfort range.

3. Speaking Scout and Tribhuvan, Race 13

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 9/5

Race 13 is the $150,000 Grade 3 Monmouth Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The favorites are Tribhuvan (9/5) on the rail for trainer Chad Brown, and Catnip (7/2) on the outside 6 post. Tribhuvan owns the superior pace profile in this race while dropping into much easier company. He'll take a lot of wagering dollars despite racing for the first time since Aug, 2022. But there is upset potential for both Speaking Scout (4/1) and Commandeer (5/1). Speaking Scout has just missed the board in two graded stakes since finishing 3rd in the Pegasus World Cup Turf. He won a Grade 1 race in Dec. and now runs on a different race track for the 12th straight race.
