Mike McCarthy Gets Emotional Ahead of Return to Green Bay
Updated:
Week 10 of the 2022 NFL season sets up a highly anticipated matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers. Much of the intrigue surrounding this game centers on head coach Mike McCarthy, who returns to Green Bay for the first time since he was fired by the Packers in 2018.
The weight of the moment certainly isn't lost on McCarthy, who was emotional discussing his past life ahead of this contest.
The Cowboys head coach was asked what he misses most about Green Bay. McCarthy answered by discussing the people and his daughters being born there, which prompted him to get choked up.
There has to be a ton of emotions running through McCarthy as he prepares to face his former team. He spent 13 years as the Packers' head coach, going 125-77-2 and winning a Super Bowl in 2010. However, the team failed to recapture that glory over his last 8.5 seasons, leading to him being ousted after Week 13 of the 2018 campaign.
McCarthy then arrived in Dallas in 2020. He led the Cowboys to an NFC East title last year, and they're in the contender conversation after starting this season 6-2.
Surely McCarthy would like nothing more than to leave Green Bay with a win. The Packers, meanwhile, will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Sunday. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds peg Dallas as a 5-point favorite heading into this clash.
