Mets Owner Responds to Controversial New Uniforms

With the latest collective bargaining agreement, MLB teams were given the ability to sell a small patch on their uniform as advertising space to brands or businesses, similar to what we have seen in the NBA in recent years.

This principle alone has seen immense pushback from fans, who see it as nothing more than a money grab for their owners as well as a "stain" on traditional uniforms.

Nevertheless, most teams have held off on adding any advertisements to their uniforms until the New York Mets announced they were going to be putting one on the left sleeve of theirs. The Mets will have a red and white New York-Presbyterian Hospital logo on their uniform. Fans pointed out that those colors, however, are those of the Philadelphia Phillies -- one of New York's division rivals in the NL East.

Mets owner Steve Cohen -- one of the few owners who undoubtedly re-invests his money back into his team -- has heard the pushback on the new patch and has decided to do something about it.

It sounds like Cohen is going to get that change made to the jersey patch. Even though red and white are the hospital's colors, New York's colors and preferences come first.

The mere existence of the patch is enough of an issue for fans that pay good money to support Cohen and his team, while making this small change should be no issue. If it is, it's time for Cohen to find a new advertising partner or scrap the idea altogether.
