Luke Wypler Scouting Report

Wypler committed to Ohio State after a career as an All-State tackle in high school and appeared in one game during his redshirt season in 2020. He moved to the center position prior to the 2021 campaign and started all 13 games for the Buckeyes, allowing 0 sacks and only 1 quarterback hit.

The New Jersey native was able to replicate that success in 2022, giving up just 1 sack and 0 QB hits across 13 games played. He was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention as a result. Wypler helped lead an offense that ranked second in points (44.2) and ninth in yards (490.7) per contest.

Highlighted strengths of Wypler's game revolve around a polished technique. Wypler stays calm in his pass protection, regularly putting himself in the perfect position to keep defenders out of the backfield. His athleticism allows him to get the second level of the defense during rushing plays, too.

Wypler is not a prospect without flaws, though, as he lacks the physical strength to push defenders backward or displace them in their stance. He isn't overpowering and could benefit from putting in some work in the weight room. Nevertheless, Wypler has the skill set to start in the NFL from day one.

Luke Wypler NFL Draft Prediction

Wypler has the foundation of a reliable pass-blocking center with the upside of someone capable of thriving in a zone-rushing scheme. He does not come with positional versatility and that could limit his potential suitors list during the draft. Also keep in mind this center class is relatively top-heavy in 2023.

The Texans used the No. 2 overall pick on C.J. Stroud and could take advantage of their pick arsenal to select a center who knows his game well. After all, Houston's projected starting center is 28-year-old Scott Quessenberry, who allowed 7 sacks in what was his first season with the team last year.

The Texans made a big jump from No. 12 overall to No. 3 overall in order to draft Will Anderson Jr., but still have two draft picks in the third round they can use to select Wypler. Waiting beyond that point would be a risky choice for a team in need of any boost it can get on the offensive side of the football.

Prediction: Houston Texans (Round 3, 65th or 73rd overall)
