Kayshon Boutte Scouting Report
Boutte committed to LSU as a top-100 national prospect and wasted no time making an impact on the offensive side of the ball. He tallied 735 yards and 5 touchdowns on 45 receptions in 2020, earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team as a result. He kept that production going in 2021.
The Louisiana native logged 509 yards and 9 touchdowns on 38 receptions as a sophomore but only appeared in six games before suffering a nasty ankle injury. Boutte returned to the Tigers in 2022 and finished the campaign with 538 yards and 2 touchdowns on 48 receptions across 11 games played.
Highlighted strengths of Boutte's game center around what he does after making a catch. He has shown elite elusiveness and his lower-body strength allows him to run through tackles when a defender actually gets in front of him. He regularly turned short plays into long gains down the field.
Boutte is not a prospect without flaws, though, as he needs to improve on the little things. He lacks a quick burst off the snap and didn't come down with many contested catches in college. Working on widening his catch radius would help Boutte turn into a consistent contributor for an NFL squad.
Kayshon Boutte NFL Draft Prediction
Boutte is an intriguing WR prospect given he has experience playing along the outside and in the slot. He served as a main recipient during screen plays and jet sweeps while at LSU, too. Boutte has the speed to burn defenders deep and the run-after-the-catch skills to beat defenders on short plays.
The LSU standout may be the exact kind of weapon the Minnesota Vikings need to pair with Justin Jefferson. Veteran Adam Thielen departed the team in free agency and KJ Osborn has only seen playing time as a slot receiver. Boutte could step in as a No. 2 WR on a pass-heavy NFL offense.
Defenses would have nightmares trying to cover both Jefferson and Boutte, especially considering either one could be running a deep or intermediate route. The two never played on the same team at LSU, but they may be teammates in the NFL for what projects to be a third-round cost for Minnesota.
Prediction: Minnesota Vikings (Round 3, 87th overall)
