Julio Jones Reveals Injury Status Heading Into Training Camp
Updated:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made another big-name addition this week by signing veteran wide receiver Julio Jones. The future Hall-of-Famer has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, though, prompting questions about how much he can contribute at this stage in his career.
Prior to his first practice with Tampa Bay, Jones gave an update on his health status for the season.
Jones told reporters Wednesday he is "100% healthy" heading into training camp. That's great news for Bucs fans, as Jones hasn't looked like himself in recent years due to all of his injury troubles.
Missed games have been a theme for Jones over the past two seasons. He made only nine starts for the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, and that number improved to just 10 in 2021 for the Tennessee Titans. As a result, he's posted a meager 1,078 yards over those two seasons combined.
Jones' days of being a perennial 1K-yard receiver are likely gone, but he still could be a valuable weapon for Tom Brady this year. He presents a big, capable target at 6-foot-3 and his presence alone still demands at least some attention from opposing defenses.
Hopefully Jones is able to regain his form in his return to the NFC South and help the Bucs' passing attack while Chris Godwin recovers from his ACL injury.
