Josh Allen Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Expect Another Stellar Season)
Updated:
Not only did Josh Allen lead the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs for the third straight season in 2021, but he also finished as the No. 1 QB in fantasy football for the second straight season. The 26-year-old's ability to throw the ball deep down the field or rush up the middle is making him an unstoppable force.
With that being the case, it's no surprise to see Allen top quarterback rankings in fantasy football leagues. His average draft position (ADP) has him going as the first signal-caller off the board and as an early-third round pick in one-QB formats.
Josh Allen Fantasy Football Outlook
Keep in mind Allen was the only QB to average more than 24 points per game last season and his results could've been even better. His expected fantasy points average actually sat at 26.7, which was nearly three points higher than anyone else at the position. The fact that the Wyoming product posted the most top-three weekly finishes at QB just goes to show how consistently well he was playing down the stretch.
It's important to note that Allen did lose his offensive coordinator this offseason (Brian Daboll) and head coach Sean McDermott mentioned he would like to see his franchise star run less in 2022. An increase in pass attempts and a decrease in rushing attempts isn't exactly a bad thing, though. The Bills have a roster filled with dynamic receivers like Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Dawson Knox and Jamison Crowder. Rookie James Cook also provides Allen with the best pass-catching back of his career.
The Bills already ranked third in the NFL when it came to the amount of four and five-WR sets run on offense, anyways. Allen headlines an offense that has averaged at least 29 points per game in each of the last two seasons and loves to keep its foot on the pedal despite whatever the score may be. The only thing that could possibly keep Allen from producing a top-five season would be an injury.
Josh Allen Projections
Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook expect another big year out of Allen as well. He is sixth to lead the NFL is passing yards (+1100), which lines up almost perfectly with where he ranked last year with 4,407 yards through the air. He is also third to lead the NFL in passing touchdowns (+700). Allen has tapped into his potential over the last two seasons, averaging 271.4 passing yards and 35.8 rushing yards per game. Staying healthy for another entire regular season likely means Allen can reach 4,600 passing yards and 600 rushing yards with ease.
Is Josh Allen a Good Fantasy Football Pick?
When it comes down to it, is Allen worth an early-round pick? There's no doubt about it. He's the No. 1 quarterback in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings, and is worthy of consideration for managers looking to get a leg up on their opponents at the position.
The rarity of a bad performance from Allen is what makes him stand out from a fantasy football perspective. When he cannot connect with his receivers, he will scramble out of the pocket and run. When the opposing defense is stacking the box against him, he will take advantage by launching it deep. Managers cannot ask for much more than that.
