Jordan Battle Scouting Report
Battle committed to Alabama as a top-100 national recruit and made an immediate impact on head coach Nick Saban's defense. He logged 30 total tackles (2.0 for loss) and 1 interception. Battle then tallied 66 total tackles (3.0 for loss) and 4 pass breakups across 12 games in his sophomore season.
The Florida native turned thing up another notch in 2021 & 2022 as he garnered first-team All-SEC and third-team All-American honors in each season. Battle tallied 156 total tackles (1.5 for loss), 5 pass breakups and 4 interceptions (2 touchdowns) across 28 games played during that span.
Highlighted strengths of Battle's game center around his aggressive nature. He can close quickly from a distance when in rush defense and can make unexpected tackles with his pre-snap diagnosis in pass defense. Battle has also been praised as a remarkable leader both on and off the football field.
Battle is far from a perfect prospect, though, as his aggressiveness can lead to over-pursuing ball-carriers and missing the tackle as a result. He could benefit from improving his coverage of shiftier wide receivers, too. Nevertheless, Battle has the makings of a safety capable of holding his own.
Jordan Battle NFL Draft Prediction
Battle sticks out among the safety prospects in this draft class considering he has experience at both strong and free safety. He has also become accustomed to lining up in the nickel position or in the box, meaning he can do almost anything a defensive coordinator will likely ask of him as a rookie.
As for the best fit for Battle, the Bills line up as an underrated landing spot. Yes, Buffalo already has Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde patrolling the secondary as starting safeties. However, they are both north of 30 years old and the depth behind them isn't guaranteed (Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin).
Battle is someone capable of coming in and learning from some of the best players at his position. He could provide rotational help early on and turn into a reliable starter rather quickly. Battle may still around in the third round (91 overall), but he likely ends up costing the Bills a second-round selection.
Prediction: Buffalo Bills (Round 2, 59 overall)
