Jeremiah Martin Scouting Report
Martin committed to Texas A&M out of high school but failed to make much of an impact with the Aggies across three seasons. He tallied 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss) in nine games played. He then opted to transfer to Washington prior to the 2021 season, which is where he tapped into his potential.
The California native appeared in nine games in his first year with the Huskies, racking up 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and 1.0 sacks. Martin took things to another level in 2022 as he posted 41 total tackles (11.0 for loss), 8.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 pass breakup in 13 games of action.
Highlighted strengths of Martin's game revolve around his versatility. He has great size (6-foot-4, 261 pounds) for an edge rusher, meaning he can be moved to the interior of the defensive line to rush the passer. He also dropped into coverage at times for the Huskies and succeeded in his job.
Martin is far from a perfect prospect, though, as he lacks consistent acceleration and is unable to sustain his initial quickness from the snap. One productive college season out of five attempts is not a great sign, either. Nonetheless, Martin could be developed into a difference-maker along the D-line.
Jeremiah Martin NFL Draft Prediction
It's going to take some time before Martin is able to be counted on during important NFL plays, but he has a solid foundation capable of being coached. That cannot be said about every other late-round prospect out there. Some team is going to see that untapped potential and take a chance on Martin.
As for which team will be the one to make the phone call, look out for the Raiders. Las Vegas is tied for the most picks in the 2023 NFL Draft (12) and finished 29th in team sacks last season (27.0). Guiding Martin to continue the growth he experienced in college would help in that facet of the game.
It's not like selecting Martin would take away major draft capital that could help the Raiders compete in the AFC West next season, anyways. Las Vegas could likely get away with using a fifth, sixth or even seventh-round selection to give defensive coordinator Patrick Graham an intriguing new player.
Prediction: Las Vegas Raiders (Round 6, 204th or 214th overall)
