James Robinson Fantasy Outlook on the Rise Following Strong Performance in Week 1

Updated:

Many fantasy football experts doubted Jackosnville Jaguars running back James Robinson ahead of the 2022 NFL season. After all, the 24-year-old tore his Achilles last season and had to deal with sophomore RB Travis Etienne's presence in the backfield.

It seems as if Robinson took those doubts personally, as he did his best to silence the non-believers on Sunday. While the Jaguars fell short against the Washington Commanders, the veteran rusher turned in a solid performance that has his fantasy stock on the rise heading into Week 2.

James Robinson Fantasy Outlook

Robinson got 12 touches (11 carries, one catch) on Sunday, turning them into 69 totals yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns. He finished the day with 19.9 fantasy points, leaving him as the RB11 in PPR formats heading into Monday Night Football, according to FantasyPros.

What's even more encouraging is Robinson's usage under head coach Doug Pederson. Despite Etienne's presence, Robinson played 51% of offensive snaps compared to his counterpart's 49% while also out-carrying him 11 to 4.

In the end, the Jaguars clearly have defined roles for their two RBs. Robinson will see the majority of the ground work, making him more valuable in standard fantasy leagues, while Etienne will handle passing downs, giving him value in PPR formats.

It'll be interesting to see if Robinson can build off his strong start when Jacksonville faces the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. The Colts held the Houston Texans to only 2.75 rushing yards per carry during Week 1 and did not allow any rushing touchdowns, so Indy's defense could present a challenge for Robinson.
