Jalen Wilson 2023 NBA Draft Profile (Combine Results, Measurements and Scouting Report for Older Prospect)
Updated:
Kansas' Jalen Wilson enters the 2023 NBA Draft as one of the better prospects available. Boasting some solid size and the ability to score, it's no surprise that a decent number of NBA teams would like to add him to their roster.
Here's everything you need to know about Jalen Wilson before the 2023 NBA Draft.
Jalen Wilson Scouting Report and Draft Prediction
The 2022-23 season saw Wilson nearly double his offensive output from the previous campaign, going from 11.1 PPG in 2021-22 to 20.1 PPG this year. He also set new career highs in rebounds per game (8.3) and three-point percentage (33.7%) while being named the Big 12 Player of the Year and earning the Julis Erving Award as the NCAA's top small forward.
Wilson isn't afraid to use his size, highlighted by his leading the Big 12 in rebounds per game. In terms of offense, he isn't afraid to shoot the ball as he also led the conference in field goals made (247) and field-goal attempts (575). He's effective at driving to the basket, too, due to his aggressive nature.
It isn't all sunshine and rainbows, though. Wilson is one of the older players in the draft, meaning some scouts likely see him as having a lower ceiling. He isn't a great defender, either. He also ranked No. 5 in the Big 12 with 84 total turnovers, drawing attention to his lack of playmaking upside.
The Los Angeles Lakers were one of the NBA's worst three-point shooting teams last season and could use someone like Wilson to fix that issue. The team has already made their interest known, having invited Wilson for a private workout just over two weeks ago, per Sports Illustrated.
With the Lakers looking to spend money to improve other areas in pursuit of a championship, there's no harm in seeing what a cheap rookie like Wilson could do off the bench. If he continues his three-point success, it's a win. If not, it should only cost a second-rounder to learn that lesson.
Prediction: Los Angeles Lakers (Round 2, 47th overall)
