Jacob Toppin 2023 NBA Draft Profile (Combine Results, Measurements and Scouting Report for Kentucky Forward)

Updated:

Kentucky forward Jacob Toppin enters the 2023 NBA Draft as one of the more underrated prospects available. Boasting great length along with notable jumping capabilities and box-out skills, the potential is there for Toppin to become a contributor at the next level.

Here's everything you need to know about Jacob Toppin before the 2023 NBA Draft.

Jacob Toppin Scouting Report and Draft Prediction

Jacob Toppin may not be the same caliber of NBA prospect that his brother was back in 2020, but the young baller is still expected to hear his name called at some point on draft night. Toppin is a prototypical big forward in the sense that he excels when playing above the rim and has numerous dunks on his highlight reel. He can rebound with the best of them and also tallies the occasional block.

The 23-year-old leaned on his physical traits to average 12.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 31.4 minutes per game in his final season with Kentucky. He increased his scoring mark by over 6.0 points as a senior and was regularly leaned on down the stretch due to his ability to disrupt shots at the rim. He received praise as a locker room leader by head coach John Calipari, too.

Toppin is far from a perfect prospect, though, as he never established an outside shot during college and could use some improvement from the free throw line (66.4% in 2022-23). He has the tools to be a playmaker as a pro but has only shown flashes of those tools here and there. It's going to take some time for the Wildcats standout to figure out how to expand his game beyond his work at the rim.

Overall, Toppin is a springy combo forward with a low floor but a high ceiling. That's usually the case for prospects labeled with a second-round projection. The Indiana Pacers make sense as a landing spot, as their abundance of draft picks (5) should allow them to take on a project player or two. Toppin has the potential to develop into a reliable role player alongside a fellow big man in Myles Turner.

Prediction: Indiana Pacers (Round 2, 55th overall)
