Jace's Road Kentucky Derby Horse Odds, History and Predictions (Lack of Momentum Gives Him Little Upside)

Kentucky Derby Week is finally here. In just a few short days, 20 of the world's best horses will participate in the 149th Run for the Roses and aim for eternal glory.

One competitor everyone has their eyes on ahead of this race is Jace's Road, who enters under the guidance of a successful trainer. Here's everything you need to know about this colt before he vies for the 2023 Kentucky Derby crown.

Jace's Road Kentucky Derby Odds and Post Position

Jace's Road owns 15-1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby after the post positions were announced on Monday. It's a mark that is tied with four other horses in the field as Jace's Road checks in 18th among Derby hopefuls in terms of qualifying points (45). Jace's Road drew the #12 post position.

Jace's Road Horse Trainer and Jockey

Jace's Road is trained by Brad Cox, who was born and raised near Churchill Downs. He notably finished first with Mandaloun as well as third with Essential Quality during the 2021 Kentucky Derby as each horse was moved up one spot via a disqualification. The two-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer has three other horses featured in this year's Derby (Angel of Empire, Hit Show, and Verifying).

Jace's Road's jockey for the 2023 Kentucky Derby is Florent Geroux. The accomplished racer won the 2021 Derby aboard Mandaloun via disqualification and also finished third at the 2016 Derby aboard Gun Runner. The 36-year-old has had a mount in six of the last seven runnings.

Jace's Road Race History

Jace's Road has a career record of six starts and two wins with two third-place finishes all-time. He'll run in the Derby over four months after his most recent victory, which came at the Gun Runner Stakes back in December. The colt emerged victorious by 5 1/2 lengths in that one.

Jace's Road Kentucky Derby Prediction and Pick

Jace's Road proved he is a contending horse when he outlasted the competition at the Gun Runner Stakes back in December, but his recent finishes (third and fifth) leave a lot to be desired. He can struggle to keep up with the overall race pace at times and relies on his tactical abilities to make up ground as a result. Trainer Brad Cox as well as jockey Florent Geroux have found success at the Derby in the past, which does provide Jace's Road with a slight bit of upside. It's just not enough upside to justify backing a horse that has not lived up to expectations in what is a loaded field this year.
