Ja'Marr Chase Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Can He Reach WR1 Status?)

Ja'Marr Chase Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Can He Reach WR1 Status?)

Updated:

Remember when people were concerned about Ja'Marr Chase's issues with dropping the football last preseason? The Cincinnati Bengals superstar easily erased any legitimacy behind that sentiment, concluding his rookie campaign as the WR5 in PPR fantasy football formats in 2021.

At just 22 years old, the world hasn't seen the best that Chase has to offer. Fantasy Pros has high expectations for him, listing him as the WR3 in PPR formats with an average draft position of 8.6.

Ja'Marr Chase Fantasy Football Outlook

It's hard not to have your mind blown by what Chase accomplished as a rookie. He was near the top of all major receiving categories, including finishing fourth in yards (1,455), third in touchdowns (13) and second in yards per reception (18.0).

The thing about Chase is that not only does he have room to go, but so does his quarterback Joe Burrow. If the 25-year-old gunslinger can take a step forward in his third season, Chase shouldn't have an issue reaping the benefits.

Chase is also fortunate to play alongside fellow wideouts Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins again. While the former is the most talented of the trio, the other two combined for over 1,900 receiving yards in 2021, meaning defenses must respect them, making Chase's life easier in the process.

Ja'Marr Chase Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are also nice and high on Chase. The sophomore wideout owns the second-best odds (+1200) to be the NFL's 2022 receiving yards leader. Considering how high he finished in the race as a rookie, the sky appears to be his limit.

FanDuel has also set Chase's projected receiving yard total at 1,210.5 with -112 to hit both the over and under. He easily surpassed that total last year without missing a game, meaning hitting the total is a realistic goal as long as he remains healthy.

Is Ja'Marr Chase a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

It should go without saying that Chase is a fantastic fantasy football pick. He accomplished more in one season removed from college than most wideouts can in their entire career. If he's available at the eighth overall pick or later in your draft, it's a no-brainer to snag him.

Chase currently clocks in at No. 5 on The Duel's PPR WR rankings ahead of the upcoming season.

Having said that, don't be disappointed if he doesn't hit 1,400-plus yards ago. Opposing teams now have more film on him, allowing them to plan better. Throw in the fact that the Bengals own the sixth-toughest schedule, making it a good idea to keep fantasy expectations tempered to start the season.
