Is LeBron James Playing Tonight? (Latest Injury Status Updates and News vs. Kings)

Updated:

The Los Angeles Lakers will close Wednesday's busy NBA slate with a matchup against the Sacramento Kings at Crypto.com Arena.

Injuries continue to ravage the Lakers, and star forward LeBron James is currently among those hobbled. With running mate Anthony Davis out indefinitely, James has become even more important to Los Angeles as the team hopes to remain in the playoff hunt.

Is LeBron James Playing Tonight Against Sacramento?

The latest update on LeBron is that he's listed as questionable for Wednesday's contest against the Kings. The King himself is currently dealing with left ankle soreness that sidelined him on Jan. 9 versus the Denver Nuggets. However, he returned after just a one-game absence and has suited up in each of LA's last three contests.

Most encouraging is the fact that James played in both games of the Lakers' recent back-to-back on Sunday and Monday. Some thought the four-time MVP would be held out for the second leg, but he went on to dominate despite his ankle injury, posting 48 points in 36 minutes. That kind of performance shows this ailment isn't a threat to slow him down, putting him in great position to play on Wednesday. We'll update this space once official word comes down.

LeBron James Fantasy Outlook and Prop Bets

The Lakers are currently listed as 4-point home underdogs against the Kings, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds. Oddsmakers aren't concerned about James' injury, projecting him at over/unders of 33.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists. LeBron's hit the over on this points total (-122) in three of his last four outings, including against this same Sacramento squad on Jan. 7, so that looks like a smart choice tonight.

Considering how he performed on the second night of a back-to-back, there should be no concerns about playing James tonight in DFS. He's been on a tear as of late, posting at 71.1, 62.6, 59.7 and 56.1 FanDuel fantasy points in his last four appearances. The Kings also own one of the league's worst defenses, giving up the seventh-most PPG. That should set James up for a huge night as a scorer and distributor, making him one of the best premium-priced ($11,400) plays on Wednesday.
