Is Chris Paul Playing Today? (Latest Injury Updates and Suns vs. Grizzlies on Jan. 22)

Updated:

The Phoenix Suns are back in action on Sunday night as they face the Memphis Grizzlies at 8 p.m. ET. One player's status to keep an eye on ahead of tip-off is Chris Paul, who's missed each of Phoenix's last seven games with a hip injury.

Chris Paul Injury Update (1/22/2023)

Updated Sunday, Jan. 22 at 6:45 p.m. ET: Chris Paul will play tonight.

Head coach Monty Williams has been adamant that Chris Paul has been doing more and more in practice this past week. The veteran point guard was still ruled out prior to Saturday's game against Indiana, though, and finds himself as a likely game-time decision on Sunday night against Memphis.

The goods news is that Paul's increased participation level means his return to the court seems to be on the horizon. The bad news is that he continues to get downgraded from questionable to out just prior to tip-off. Something notable is still keeping the 37-year-old from suiting up with his teammates.

It'd be no surprise to see the Suns play it safe once again and keep Paul off the court until he is back to 100% health. Phoenix needs to start turning things around if it wants any shot of making the NBA playoffs, but a limited Paul wouldn't greatly help an offense that is already missing Devin Booker.

Chris Paul Fantasy Outlook and Prop Bets Today

Paul enters tonight's slate with an over/under of 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds. Paul will take over ball-control duties, so betting on him to hit the over 7.5 assists is a great option based on his season average of 8.3.

Paul is listed as an option on FanDuel's DFS market at a price tag of $7,800. The veteran is shooting 39.8% from three-point range this season, which is his highest mark since 2016. If he suits up, that will come in handy against a Thunder defense that allows 12.7 three-point makes per game (No. 19 in NBA). There is an opportunity to shift your lineup to include Bridges ($7,400) if Paul is ruled out, too.
