How LeBron James Avoided Fee for Changing Numbers

With player movement and jersey number changing becoming such a growing trend around the NBA, the league instituted a policy that if you are to change your number, then the player will be forced to cover some of the cost to help retailers recoup some of the money they will then lose on the inventory of now-outdated jerseys.

Is LeBron Changing Numbers?

LeBron James announced last year he planned to change his jersey number with the Lakers form 23 to 6, but missed the deadline to submit the request to the league. So he refiled in time for the following year, and will now wear No. 6 starting in the 2021-22 season.

By LeBron providing the league, Nike and other retailers this much lead time to get rid of No. 23 LeBron Lakers jerseys, the 36-year-old superstar avoided the dreaded fee that normally comes along with a jersey change.

Anthony Davis will reportedly still wear the No. 3, after earlier reports had suggested he would switch back to No. 23 once it was vacated by LeBron.

Now we will officially have LeBron No. 6 jerseys from the Olympics, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Toon Squad.
