Has Houston Ever Won a National Championship?
Updated:
The Houston Cougars became the highest remaining seed in their region early in the 2021 NCAA Tournament after No. 1 Illinois became a victim of a long list of upsets this year, and Houston has made the most of the opportunity.
They rank third in the odds to win the tournament, at +800, but they do have +180 odds to advanced past Baylor on Saturday. That would put them just one win away from a National Championship.
Would winning the National Championship be a new experience for Houston fans?
Houston National Championship History
Houston has never won an NCAA men's basketball National Championship. Their best-ever finish came as the runner-up in both 1983 and 1984 with Clyde Drexler and Akeem Olajuwon. That was also their last time making it to the Final Four or Elite Eight prior to this 2021 run.
The 2021 tournament is their fourth time coming in as a No. 1 seed, though they only reached the Final Four in one of those previous three years (2016-17).
FanDuel Sportsbook's NCAA odds have Gonzaga as a huge 14-point favorite over UCLA in their Final Four matchup on Saturday.
