5 Greatest Wide Receivers in Packers History

The Green Bay Packers are one of the most stories franchises in all of sports, let alone football. Established in 1919, many legendary players have worn the green and gold and represented the Wisconsin faithful.

With that in mind, here are the five greatest wide receivers in Packers history.

5. Jordy Nelson (2008-2017)

Not only fifth on the charts for all-time Packers receiving yards, but a Super Bowl Champion and fan favorite., Jordy Nelson was underrated during his time in the league. He only made one Pro Bowl and being awarded Second-Team All-Pro once as well, despite having 69 touchdowns and almost 8,000 receiving yards for the Packers.

4. James Lofton (1978-1986)

Next on the list is Hall of Famer James Lofton. His career was absolutely tremendous, but only a little more than half of it was with the Packers. The second half of Lofton's tenure was split over four different teams. His best days were still with the Pack, securing seven Pro Bowl appearances and one First-Team All-Pro honor (plus three Second-Team honors). Second in total Packers receiving yards and second in receiving yards per game, Lofton is now a member of the Packers Hall of Fame.

3. Donald Driver (1999-2012)

Lofton may have been more efficient in Green Bay than Donald Driver was, but Driver was a career Packer. Spending 14 seasons in Green Bay, Driver is the franchise's all-time leader in receiving yards, with 10,137.

2. Sterling Sharpe (1988-1994)

It's hard to argue against Sterling Sharpe being the greatest Packers receiver throughout history. He has the most receiving yards per game out of any Green Bay player at 72.6. He is also third on the list in receiving yards, but many believe he would be first if not for a career ending neck injury. Another career Packer, Sharpe is a five-time Pro Bowler, three-time First-Team All-Pro, three-time NFL receptions leader, two-time NFL receiving touchdowns leader and one-time NFL receiving yards leader. Sharpe is now a member of the Packers Hall of Fame, and one of the biggest "what if?" cases in NFL history.

1. Don Hutson (1935-1945)

The Packers legend of a forgotten era, Don Hutson basically invented the wide receiver position. Hutson's 99 receiving touchdowns are still the franchise record by a huge margin, and he averaged close to a touchdown per game (playing in 116 games). His production was also completely unmatched by his peers. Across 11 seasons he led the NFL in receptions eight times, in receiving yards seven times and in receiving touchdowns nine times. The Packers Hall of Famer was an easy choice for the Pro Football Hall of Fame as well. He was a three-time NFL Champion as well as an eight-time First-Team All-Pro. Hutson even won the NFL MVP Award twice. A member of the NFL 100th Anniversary Team with many other honors mixed in, Hutson's No. 14 has been retired in Green Bay forever.
