3 Greatest Quarterbacks in Chargers History

The Los Angeles Chargers have been in flux lately, with the recent move to Los Angeles from San Diego. Still, this franchise has been around since 1960, and it has seen some great passers throughout its history.

With that in mind, let's take a look at the three best quarterbacks in Chargers' history.

3. John Hadl (1962-72)

Drew Brees could've been in consideration here, but John Hadl gets the nod thanks to a much larger body of work for the team. Hadl played 154 games for the Chargers , racking up 26,938 passing yards (No. 3 in franchise history) and 201 touchdowns (No. 3).

2. Dan Fouts (1973-87)

Dan Fouts has a legitimate claim to the next spot on the list, but we'll keep him at No. 2. He's second in franchise history with 43,040 passing yards and 254 touchdowns. Fouts is a six-time Pro Bowler and was a first-team All-Pro on three occasions, including a 1982 campaign that saw him finish as the NFL Offensive Player of the Year. With Fouts at the helm, the famed "Air Coryell" offense led the NFL in yards gained five times in six seasons from 1980 to 1985, also leading the NFL in scoring in three of the six.

1. Philip Rivers (2004-19)

Of course, the best passer in this franchise's history is the one who just left the team in free agency, Philip Rivers. Rivers is the franchise leader essentially across the board, dwarfing Fouts' numbers with 59,271 passing yards, 397 touchdowns and a 95.1 QB rating (tops among passers with at least 30 attempts). He's an eight-time Pro Bowler and a lock for the Hall of Fame whenever he hangs them up.
