The Colorado Rockies are one of the youngest franchises in the MLB, established in 1993. They have yet to win a World Series, but did win one National League Pennant in 2007.
During their 27 years in the league the league, the Rockies have had four outfielders that have really left their mark with the club. One was even inducted into the Hall of Fame. Here are our four greatest Rockies outfielders of all time.
4. Charlie Blackmon (2011-present)
It's tough to rank two through four on this list, but Charlie Blackmon's career has been slightly less spectacular than the other two. Consistency has been the center fielder's game, and he has done it well for many years, with a .304 career batting average and a 24.1 offensive WAR. A mix of power and speed also puts him eighth on the Colorado home run list, ninth in RBI, third in triples and second in stolen bases. Blackmon's claim to fame so far has been his National League Batting Title in 2017, but he is also a four-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger. He has played his entire career with the Rockies so far, and will likely end up in their ring of honor some day.
3. Carlos Gonzalez (2009-18)
Carlos Gonzalez, or CarGo, accumulated more statistics during his tenure with the Rockies than most others have for this franchise. He finished second in games played and plate appearances, trailing only Todd Helton. Gonzalez tailed off during the latter years with Colorado, but during his prime he was a three-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glover, two-time Silver Slugger and National League Batting Champion in 2010. CarGo finished fourth in RBI, tied for fourth in home runs, third in hits and fifth in total WAR for the franchise.
2. Matt Holliday (2004-08, 2018)
A more brief stint with the club than Blackmon or Gonzalez, but a ferocious one nonetheless, Matt Holliday played five straight seasons as a Rockies outfielder before adding one season on the back-end of his career. He played with Colorado during their best stretch, including the '07 pennant run, and was the NLCS MVP during that series. He was also a three-time All-Star with the team, three-time Silver Slugger, NL Batting Champ ('07) and NL RBI leader (also '07). His overall numbers are less significant with Colorado, as he didn't play as long with the team, but he did hit for a scorching .319 average and .550 slugging with a .936 on-base percentage as a Rockie.
1. Larry Walker (1995-2004)
The Canadian 2020 Hall of Fame inductee will be first on this list until otherwise dethroned. Larry Walker spent most of his career with Colorado and was a four-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glover, two-time Silver Slugger and three-time MLB Batting Champion with the Rockies. He led the National League in home runs in 1997, and won the NL MVP that season. Second all time in total WAR, home runs and RBI for Colorado, as well as first in many categories including batting average (.334), on-base percentage and slugging, Walker was a true Legend for the Rox.
