Germany's men's national soccer team is finally back in the FIFA World Cup for the 18th consecutive tournament. Germany officially kicks off its run with a match against Japan on Wednesday, the first of three for the DFB-Team versus Group E opponents.

Germany World Cup Appearances

This year marks the 20th all-time appearance for the German men's national soccer team. Germany previously qualified for this tournament in 1934, 1938, 1954, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018.

DFB-Team's appearance in 2018 was its most recent prior to this year, however, the Germans failed to make it beyond the group stage for the first time since 1978.

The 2026 World Cup will be Germany's 21st appearance if the country qualifies.

The German men's national soccer team has been a consistent presence at the World Cup since the tournament's inception. Germany is tied with Italy for the second-most tournament wins with four, having taken home the gold in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.
