Former Buccaneers Defender Tweets Strong Reaction to Lavonte David Top 100 List Slight

Updated:

The NFL released its annual preseason Top 100 list over the last few weeks, with the final installment coming out late on Sunday night. Tom Brady ended up with the No. 1 spot for the fourth time in his career and was one of a handful of Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the list.

That didn't stop one player from being slighted from this often criticized list. Despite racking up nearly 100 tackles in only 12 games, veteran linebacker Lavonte David was left off this list.

His former teammate Gerald McCoy took to Twitter on Monday morning with a strong reaction to the obvious slight.

With the addition of some all caps for emphasis, McCoy was not happy. "LAVONTE FRAKING DAVID wasn't on the top 100!! We serious right now!?!"

McCoy proceeds to detail his feelings that David is an underrated talent, saying "This dude have to show y'all every year. And this year won't be any different!!"

In his previous 10 NFL seasons, David has been nothing short of a machine. The former Nebraska product racked eight seasons with 100+ tackles, owns 26.0 career sacks and has been named both an All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl

David finished his 2021 campaign with an overall 78.8 ratings from PFF. By comparison, Micah Parsons finished atop all linebackers in PFF's rankings at 89.7 while Alexander Johnson finished third at 80.9. Easily a top-10 player at his position, David has no business being left off this list.

McCoy finished his tweet with a simple statement, saying "See y'all in Dallas!!" where the Buccaneers open up their season in Week 1. Not only does Tampa Bay hold the second-best odds (+750) to win Super Bowl LVII on FanDuel Sportsbook, but enters Week 1 as a 1.5-point road favorite.
