FIFA Under-20 World Cup 2023 Schedule, Format and TV Coverage

Updated:

Soccer fans are in for a treat as the FIFA under-20 World Cup prepares to kick off later this week. Two dozen of the world's top national teams will battle it out in Argentina for a shot at the 2023 title.

Here's everything you need to know before the event begins.

FIFA Under-20 World Cup Format

The FIFA under-20 World Cup is a biennial (once every two years) international tournament that currenly features 24 nations. Participating teams hail from the six soccer confederations: Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), Central/North America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), South America (CONMEBOL), Oceania (OFC) and Europe (UEFA).

Once again, the event begins with the Group Stage in 2023. The 24 participating nations are split into six groups, and each team will play against its three other group members once.

After these initial three matches, the top two teams from each group, plus the four best third-place squads, will advance to the Round of 16. Each round from this point on is single-elimination, though the two losers during the semifinal stage will square off in the third-place game at the end of the tournament.
