Devin Singletary Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Time to Stop Underrating the Bills No. 1 RB)

It was a slow start to the 2021 regular season, but running back Devin Singletary came alive when it mattered the most for the Buffalo Bills. From Week 15 through Week 18, Singletary was the No. 1 RB in PPR-scoring fantasy football leagues and it guided him to a No. 18 finish overall at the position.

With that being the case, fantasy managers are still hesitant to buy in on the hype and that was made clear in this year's rankings. Singletary's average draft position (ADP) has him going as the 29th running back off the board and as a late seventh-round selection.

Devin Singletary remains one of the most polarizing players in the fantasy football landscape. On one side, his role in the passing attack is going to be limited with the addition of second-round pick James Cook. Free agent signee Duke Johnson and returning Bill Zach Moss could also cut into his carries bit. However, Buffalo relied on Singletary time and time again down the stretch in 2021 and it paid off in a big way. There's no reason to think head coach Sean McDermott stops that strategy now.

Think about it like this. Singletary saw 36 red zone touches from Week 15 through the Bills' divisional round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He turned those touches in 9 rushing touchdowns and also rushed for over 80 yards in four games during that span. It wasn't just a fluke, either. Singletary simply focused on what he does best and that is making defenders whiff. The former FAU standout ranked sixth among NFL running backs in broken plus missed tackles forced percentage last season (11.2%).

All signs point to Singletary getting the majority of the carries early on in the season, meaning he'll have an opportunity to prove he is a workhorse back capable of taking on 20-plus carries a week. That same thing cannot be said about ball-carriers drafted around him like Kareem Hunt and Tony Pollard. Singletary's upside is that of a reliable RB2 playing on an offense that scored 29.8 points per game in 2021 (No. 3 in NFL). Finding that value in the seventh round or later doesn't happen too often.

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook expect Singletary to finish in the middle of the pack. He's 15th to lead the NFL in rushing yards (+3000), which is one spot higher than where he finished the 2021 season at with 870 yards on the ground. Singletary's also 39th to lead the NFL in rushing touchdowns (+7500). That is obviously going to be a much harder title to take home considering he has yet to post more than seven rushing touchdowns in a single campaign. When taking Singletary's career averages into account (13.4 touches per game, 5.0-yard average), career-high marks are within reach for the 24-year-old if he stays healthy for a full 17-game season.

Is Devin Singletary a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

When it comes down to it, is Singletary someone to target in the middle rounds? Absolutely. He has the ceiling of a high-end RB2, but an ADP in the RB3 range. He's the No. 23 running back in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings, and is a great target for managers in search of a steal.

Keep in mind Singletary has been getting every first-team rep in training camp and McDermott has stated how he wants to see less rushing attempts for quarterback Josh Allen. Those two facts alone make Singletary worth reaching for.
