Deion Sanders Responds to Latest Auburn Coaching Rumors

Updated:

The Auburn Tigers football team fired head coach Bryan Harsin on Monday after less than two years of substandard performances. Auburn lost its fourth straight game over the weekend as part of Harsin's disappointing 9-12 lifetime record.

A perennial blueblood in the SEC, Auburn has failed to live up to lofty expectations and now must find a new head coach.

The firing immediately prompted rumors about Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders as a perfect fit for the open role. Those rumors strengthened throughout the week when one Twitter account claimed Sanders flew to the Atlanta airport on Wednesday night. The tweet cits Atlanta being the closest major airport to Auburn's campus.

Sanders responded to this latest talk.

The NFL Hall of Famer was quick to quash the supposed lie.

Sanders took over the Jackson State program in 2020 and immediately began a ferocious 23-5 run. The team earned a spot in the Celebration Bowl after going 11-2 and winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2021.
