Dark Horse Picks to Win PGA 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open on FanDuel Sportsbook

The PGA Tour's first $20 million purse of 2023 is at the WM Phoenix Open, where 18 of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings tee it up this week at TPC Scottsdale - a Par 71 desert course playing to approx. 7,261 yards.

1. Hideki Matsuyama (+2800)

Matsuyama is a 2-time winner of this event. Over his 32 rounds played at TPC Scottsdale, Hideki ranks No. 1 in Strokes Gained: Total, Tee-to-Green, Ball Striking and Approach stats. The No. 20 ranked player in the world returns to a course where he's also finished top-5 two other times and T-8 last year. With a top-10 finish in his most recent event at the Farmer's Insurance Open, the 30-year-old Japanese star looks like a viable dark horse outside the top-10 players with lower odds to win.

2. Shane Lowry (+5500)

Lowry finished T-6 here on debut in 2016 and was the Round 1 leader. He was top-10 throughout the next year with top-tier Tee-to-Green stats until a final round 71 dropped him to T-16. Lowry has not played in the event for the past four years, and he recently parted ways with his caddy. But his Ball Striking remains elite, and the 35-year-old Irishman has proven performances in majors against elite fields along with comp course at TPC Sawgrass in the PLAYERS. Lowry is a dark horse threat who offers some value this week having been half these odds in many majors last year. A top-10 finish also returns +550.

3. Keith Mitchell (+6500)

Mitchell finished T-10 here last year and also finished top 20 in 2020. He's a player to watch on the Florida swing in late February and March as he plays his best on Bermuda and in the wind. Mitchell tied for 4th last week at Pebble Beach and his game was sharp from tee to green, and he scrambled well with positive putting results. If you don't bet him to win, then a top-10 (+550) or top-20 (+250) finish still returns a skin.
