Dark Horse Picks to Win PGA 2023 Honda Classic on FanDuel Sportsbook
Updated:
The Florida Swing begins with the 2023 Honda Classic. A lighter field of top-ranked players tee it up at PGA National Resort, led by 2020 champion Sungae Im. Just three of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings take a swing at the Champions Course - a Par 70 playing to approx. 7,125 yards with Bermuda fairways and greens.
Following wins by dark horse picks Max Homa in the Farmers Insurance Open and Adam Svensson in the RSM Classic, there are opportunities to cash in on other players behind the leading favorites including for a top-10 or top-20 finish.
Honda Classic Dark Horse Picks 2023
Beyond the favorites, there are plenty of capable longshots and dark horses that could make a run at the leaderboard and come away with a higher finish or victory on Sunday. Check out Honda Classic odds to win along with finishing position odds, tournament matchups and golf props on FanDuel Sportsbook.
1. Byeong Hun An (+5000)
Byeong Hun An leads this field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green at PGA National. Four of the last five champions in the Honda Classic led the field in SG: Tee-to-Green. The 29-year-old South Korean has played 14 rounds at the Champion Course, and is also No. 3 in Ball Striking and No. 5 in Approach. His putting is horrible, outside the top 125 at this course. But An had his best putting week at the Sony Open in January and also gained strokes putting in his recent event at Pebble Beach. Byeong Hun An is a capable dark horse who can be a threat and also cash in top 10 (+550) or top 20 (+240).
2. Jhonattan Vegas (+3400)
Jhonny Vegas has played 24 rounds at PGA National with Strokes Gained strength Off-the-Tee and also Tee-to-Green and Ball Striking. His Tee-to-Green game was elite in the Phoenix Open, where he recorded his second straight top-25 finish despite another bad week putting which continues to hold him back. But the 38-year-old Venezuelan pro and 3-time PGA Tour winner has two top-30 finishes in this event the last three years and also made the cut last year. He looks ready to move up sharply as an overlooked contender who can clearly finish top 10 (+320) or top 20 (+150) for a nice return as well.
3. Matthias Schwab (+17000)
Matthias Schwab finished T-7 at the Honda in his debut last year. The 28-year-old from Austria made the cut at last week's Genesis after struggling to start the year. He's a better fit on bermuda and had solid Around the Green and Short Game stats here last year. Schwab gained strokes across the board in the 2022 Honda event with his strength in SG: Tee-to-Green and was top-10 in SG: Total. Ranked No. 283 in the world, the second-year PGA Tour pro has five top-10 finishes in 47 events and is a longshot dark horse with a chance to cash a solid top-10 (+1400) or top-20 (+600) payoff.
