3 Dark Horse Picks to Win the 2022 Travelers Championship at FanDuel Sportsbook
Updated:
Following the U.S. Open and Matt Fitzpatrick's first PGA Tour and Major win, the leading golfers head to nearby TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship. Five of the top six golfers in the world golf rankings are in the field and top the odds to win the Travelers Championship.
But beyond Scheffler, McIlroy, Thomas, Cantlay, Burns, Schauffele and Spieth, there are plenty of capable contenders at longer odds who can win and take home nearly $1.5 million from the $8.3 million prize pool.
With longshots in mind, here are three dark horses that could make a run at the 2022 Travelers Championship leaderboard and perhaps win in Cromwell, Connecticut this week.
2022 U.S. Open Dark Horse Picks
1. Aaron Wise (+4800)
Aaron Wise' game is really moving forward and improved. He was challenging at the U.S. Open until the weekend and finished T27. The 25-year-old rising star has improved his putting, and if that's on this week he'll be a factor. Wise ranks top-10 in approach, ball striking and top-25 in Off-the-Tee. He's also top-5 in Opportunities Gained and top-25 in Birdies or Better Gained. Over his last five PGA Tour events, Wise has finished runner-up, T6 and made all five cuts while also making the cut at the Travelers in his only two appearances. Invest with a top-10 also returning +430.
2. Joel Dahmen (+7000)
Joel Dahmen was also challenging at the U.S. Open into the weekend on his way to a T-10 finish. Dahmen is a very short but accurate hitter off the tee, and he'll have a solid shot to do better than his best T-20 finish here in 2020. His short game and around the green play is still lagging, but his ball striking was excellent last week and look for better approach play with Dahmen noting his game is "right there" the way he's hitting it currently.
3. Luke List (+15000)
Luke List's short game and putting stats stink when reviewing Strokes Gained data. But Off-the-Tee becomes more prominent this week along with approach play, which List ranks top-15. The 37-year-old hits a high percentage of greens ( 69%) despite a wayward driver, which he won't be using as much this week on the short 6,834-yard par 70. List ranks No. 3 in OTT along with Tee-to-Green and ball striking in this field over his last 50 rounds. He also ranks top-5 in Opportunities Gained and top-15 in Birdies or Better Gained. List has not played well in four previous appearances at River Highlands, and is a longshot who won't get supported but is capable of a good payoff (+950) for a top-10 finish.
