The Dallas Stars are back in the NHL Playoffs for the second straight year following a successful 2022-23 regular season. Head coach Peter DeBoer's team has its sights set on earning the franchise's second Stanley Cup, but up first is an opening round series against the Minnesota Wild.

What Seed Are the Stars in the 2023 NHL Playoffs?

The Stars finished the 2022-23 NHL regular season with a 47-21-14 record, which earned them the No. 4 overall seed in the Western Conference. Jason Robertson led the way for Dallas, recording team highs in goals (46) and assists (63) while playing in all 82 games. The Stars' most recent playoff appearance came in 2022, when they fell to the Calgary Flames in a seven-game first round series.

Who Are the Stars Playing in the 2023 Playoffs?

As the second-place finisher in the Central Division, the Stars will play the Wild -- who posted the third-best record in that division -- in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. This will be a typical best-of-seven series that follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format. That means the better seed (Dallas) will host Games 1 and 2, plus Games 5 and 7 if those are necessary. The worse seed (Minnesota) hosts Games 3 and 4, plus Game 6 if that is necessary.

Looking ahead, if the Stars win this series and advance, they would face either the 1-seed Colorado Avalanche or the Seattle Kraken (first wild card team) in the Western Conference semifinals.
