Cubs Get Concerning Nick Madrigal Injury Update
Updated:
The Chicago Cubs were defeated, 2-1, by the New York Yankees in a 13-inning affair on Friday, but that wasn't the only thing they lost last night. Cubs second baseman Nick Madrigal exited the game during the 12th inning and did not return.
Chicago has since received some concerning news as it's been revealed that Madrigal is suffering from groin tightness. Further testing is likely needed to determine how long he'll be out, but for now, the feeling is that he'll be at least day-to-day until stated otherwise.
Nick Madrigal Injury Update
This isn't the first time that Madrigal has dealt with an injury during the 2022 MLB season. He missed nearly three weeks of action in May due to a back injury, so it'll be interesting to see how much action he misses this time.
The truth is that the 25-year-old could use some time off to get his head straight. After batting above .300 in the previous two campaigns, Madrigal is hitting .222 in 31 games this season and has yet to record a home run while tallying a pair of RBIs.
Veteran infielder Andrelton Simmons took over for Madrigal after he exited Friday's contest, making it likely that he fills in at second base until further notice. The former 2010 second-round pick has also yet to hit a homer in 18 games, recording six RBIs while slashing a disastrous .178/.196/.178.
Cubs vs Yankees Odds (June 11)
The Madrigal-less Cubs will have a chance to exact revenge on the Yankees when they face off for a rematch on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET. It's always an uphill battle against one of the best team's in baseball, proven by FanDuel Sportsbook listing Chicago at +190 on the moneyline while New York is favored at -230.
