Cody Mauch Scouting Report
Cody Mauch's final season at North Dakota State was another to remember. The Bison OT only surrendered 1 sack, 2 quarterback hits and 6 hurries on 856 offensive snaps. Mauch took home consensus FCS All-American and first-team All-MVFC honors for his efforts.
One thing draft experts love about Mauch's game is his great speed for an offensive lineman. His lateral footwork really stands out, making him an asset in the run game. He also has great character and his toothless grin will make him a fan favorite wherever he lands.
Having said that, Mauch could stand to work on his balance. Scouts have also been concerned with his arm length, as well as the fact that he might not be as big as some NFL tackles. He also drops his head often, which is something his next coaches must work on.
Cody Mauch NFL Draft Prediction
All five of the highlighted mock drafts point to Cody Mauch being a Day 2 selection. It's hard to argue with that considering his ability to be a plug-and-play option as early as Week 1. With the right coaching environment, he could be a starter for years to come.
I could see the Seattle Seahawks considering adding the North Dakota State tackle. Outside of its starting unit, Seattle has just five other offensive linemen under contract, according to Spotrac. With six offensive line members hitting free agency next offseason, the Seahawks can afford to use one of their picks on Mauch.
Not only will Mauch help protect QB Geno Smith, but his blocking will also help a Seattle run game that ranked in the bottom half of the NFL last season. He can also play on both sides of the O-line, giving head coach Pete Carroll various ways to use him.
Prediction: Seattle Seahawks (Round 2, 57th overall)
