Chase Edmonds Fantasy Outlook & Injury Update 2022 (Receiving Abilities Make Him a Potential Steal)

Chase Edmonds only played in 12 games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2021, but that didn't stop him from posting career-high marks. He finished as the No. 34 RB in PPR-scoring fantasy football leagues thanks to 903 yards from scrimmage and will look to replicate that success with the Miami Dolphins.

With that being the case, it's no surprise to see Edmonds smack dab in the middle of RB3 range in fantasy football rankings this year. His average draft position (ADP) has him going as the 33rd running back off the board and as an eighth-round selection.

Chase Edmonds Fantasy Football Outlook

Edmonds may never be a true workhorse running back because of the durability issues he has had in his career. However, his ability to make an impact in the passing attack is what sets him apart from Raheem Mostert and Sony Michel. Mostert and Michel has combined for 747 receiving yards in 114 games played. Meanwhile, Edmonds has logged 921 receiving yards across 57 games played. That is where his upside comes from and that is what makes him the best fantasy option in Miami.

Myles Gaskin acted as the Dolphins' No. 1 RB in 2020 and he ended the season with 234 receiving yards on 49 receptions (63 targets). Tua Tagovailoa regularly used Gaskin as a check-down in the passing attack. New head coach Mike McDaniel that showed he favors using screens to keep defenses on their toes during his time with the San Francisco 49ers, too. Both of these aspects provide Edmonds with the perfect situation to thrive in. Defenses focusing on Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will leave holes open for Edmonds to exploit on a weekly basis.

It's as simple as this. Edmonds is expected to lead the Dolphins backfield in touches. In his 14 career games with at least 11 touches, Edmonds has averaged a RB18 weekly finish. In the two games he played without James Conner in 2021, Edmonds posted finishes of RB6 and RB26. He is capable of providing consistent numbers as the top guy and could end up being a major steal in fantasy drafts.

Chase Edmonds injury Update

As mentioned above, Edmonds did miss some time last season. A combination of shoulder, ankle, back, rib and toe injuries kept him on the sidelines from Weeks 10 through 14 as well as Week 18. Edmonds did return for Arizona's Wild Card matchup and played in 52% of the offensive snaps.

The good news is that the 26-year-old is experiencing no lasting effects from the injuries. It can simply be chalked up to the typical wear and tear an NFL RB goes through each year. Edmonds entered training camp at full health and is the favorite to earn the starting gig in the backfield.

Chase Edmonds Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook expect Edmonds to have a tough time keeping up with the league's top rushers. He's 32nd to lead the NFL in rushing yards (+7500), which is an improvement to where he finished the 2021 season at with 592 yards. It is the same odds as teammate Raheem Mostert, though. Edmonds is also 28th to lead the NFL in rushing touchdowns (+5000). That is obviously going to be hard title to take home considering Edmonds has yet to post more than 4 scores on the ground in a single campaign. When taking Edmods' career average of 5.4 yards per touch into account, a full workload could result in his first 1,000-yard from scrimmage season.

Is Chase Edmonds a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

When it comes down to it, is Edmonds someone to target in the middle rounds? Absolutely. He is fully capable of taking over Miami's backfield. Edmond's the No. 33 running back in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings and could end up in RB2 range by the end of the year.

Once you've established the top two running backs on your fantasy roster, it becomes all about choosing players with high upsides. Edmonds' ceiling is much higher than that of players drafted around him such as Melvin Gordon and Michael Carter. It'd be smart to take advantage of that.
