What Seed Are the Hurricanes in the 2023 NHL Playoffs?

The Hurricanes finished the 2022-23 NHL regular season with a 52-21-9 record, which earned them the No. 1 seed in the Metropolitan Division. Center Martin Necas led the way for Carolina, recording team highs in points (71) and assists (43) while playing all 82 games.

The Hurricanes' most recent playoff appearance was last year, when that squad fell in the second round to the New York Rangers.

Who Are the Hurricanes Playing in the 2023 Playoffs?

As the second No. 1 seed (the Boston Bruins are the other), the Hurricanes will play the Islanders -- who earned the first wild card spot -- in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. This will be a typical best-of-seven series that follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format. That means the better seed (Carolina) will host Games 1 and 2, plus Games 5 and 7 if those are necessary. The worse seed (New York) hosts Games 3 and 4, plus Game 6 if that is necessary.

Looking ahead, if the Hurricanes win this series and advance, they would face either the 2-seed New Jersey Devils or the 3-seed New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
