LIV Golf and the PGA Tour recently announced plans to combine forces, but they remain separate organizations for now. Given this, fans are wondering about the status of some top names who are currenly apart of LIV, like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka.

Here's what you need to know about LIV players participating in the 2023 U.S. Open.

Are LIV Golfers Allowed to Play in the U.S. Open?

Yes, LIV golfers can play in the U.S. Open, if they qualify. Though they are currently banned from PGA Tour events, majors (such as the U.S. Open) are not included in this rule.

LIV players could qualify for the U.S. Open by being a past winner of the event. That means Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Martin Kaymer all have automatic entries into the tournament, if they accept, since they all won the U.S. Open previously.

As for non-U.S. Open winners, LIV golfers could also make the U.S. Open by winning a major in the past five years, world ranking, or via qualification round.
