Bucs Already Linked to Potential Byron Leftwich Replacement
Updated:
It didn't take long for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to dismiss offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich following the team's elimination from the playoffs after a loss to the Dallas Cowboys where the offense looked horrendous. Five other assistants were also let go.
There were rumors that Leftwich's job was on the line earlier in the season as Tampa limped to an 8-9 record and an NFC South title, the worst division in the NFL.
As quickly as the Bucs moved to relieve Leftwich of his duties, they are moving just as swiftly in trying to find his replacement. And one of the names on the list might surprise you.
University of Georgia's offensive coordinator Todd Monken is considered a name to watch to replace Leftwich.
While Monken has been calling plays for the National Champion Bulldogs, he's no stranger to the NFL or to the Buccaneers. Monken was the offensive coordinator under Bucs former head coach Dirk Koetter from 2016-2018.
While not too much is the same in Tampa from then, aside form a handful of players and team staff, he's still a familair face within the organization. While those Bucs teams he was with were nothing to write home about, it's clear his recent success in the college ranks is doing wonders for Monken's stock among the coaching ranks.
