Bears' Front Office to Undergo Massive Change After 2022 Season

News broke on Friday that the Chicago Bears' front office is not going to be the same following the 2022 NFL season. Team president/CEO Ted Phillips is set to retire after spending 23 years at the position. Owner George McCaskey said no replacement candidates have been identified at this time.

Phillips has been with the Bears through all of the ups and downs. After all, he has spent 39 years as a member of the front office and been a great mentor as well as leader to people in the organization. Phillips explained that COVID forced him to reflect on his life and realize work was reaching an end.

Phillips first joined the Bears are the team's controller in 1983. He was then promoted to director of finance four years later and eventually named Chicago's vice president of operations. Phillips worked under that title until taking over as team President/CEO in 1999. His climb up the ladder was quick.

McCaskey said that Phillips "steady hand" and "refusal to get too high or too low" helped make him an outstanding leader. The search for a new team president is now on, though. That person will be tasked with overseeing the Bears exit from Soldier Field and entrance into their brand new stadium.

Senior vice president of marketing and communications Scott Hagel and senior vice president and legal counsel Cliff Stein line up to be the most logical in-house replacements here. For now, Chicago has odds set at +1200 to win their first Super Bowl since 1985, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
