O'Connell is coming off of a huge season with Purdue that saw him throw for 3,490 passing yards and 22 touchdowns (with 13 interceptions ) in 12 starts. He's far from a lock to become a starter at the next level, however, NFL Next Gen Stats give him a prospect grade of 6.0, saying that O'Connell has "the traits or talent to be an above-average backup."
