AFC West Standings From the Last Decade Highlight Chiefs' Dominance

Updated:
The Kansas City Chiefs are, of course, riding high following their Super Bowl win, and the Patrick Mahomes era could not be off to a better start.
Big success isn't anything new in KC, however, and that is made clear by their ranking among AFC West teams over the past decade.

The division hasn't been at its strongest over the last decade, but that stretch does include the Denver Broncos' outstanding seasons with Peyton Manning at the helm. And the fact that the Chiefs have made the playoffs under three different starting quarterbacks (Mahomes, Alex Smith and Matt Cassel) is an outstanding feat.
A lot of this success can be attributed to head coach Andy Reid. KC had their worst season of the decade in 2012 (going 2-14), then Reid Took over and they've won at least 9 games in each of the seven seasons since. That includes double-digit wins in six of the last seven and at least 11 wins in five of the last seven years.
This domination of the AFC West doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon, either. The Chiefs are tied for the NFL's highest projected win total in 2020, according to odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
