3 Most Likely Josh Jacobs Free Agent Destinations

The NFL's free agency period is right around the corner, beginning at 4 p.m. ET on March 15. Several talented running backs will be hitting the open market next month, including Josh Jacobs, who's coming off a career year with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jacobs led the NFL in both rushing yards (1,653) and total scrimmage yards (2,053) in 2022, matching his career-high of 12 touchdowns along the way. With his efforts also earning his first-ever first-team All-Pro nod, there's no doubt that the 25-year-old will be a popular target in free agency.

Here's a look at Jacobs' three most likely free-agent destinations.

1. Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders' 2022 campaign was a disaster, to say the least, and Jacobs was one of the few bright spots of the season. Letting him walk won't make Las Vegas better and management knows that. That's why NFL insider Dov Kleiman reported last week that the feeling around the league is that the Raiders "strongly consider franchise tagging" Jacobs this offseason. While the franchise tag isn't beloved by many players, Jacobs is open to the idea as long as Las Vegas surrounds him with better talent. This route isn't the most exciting ending to the free-agent saga, but it's still a real possibility, nonetheless.

2. Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are blessed with talented offensive players like Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but the RB room leaves a lot to be desired. After all, the Dolphins averaged just 99.2 rushing yards per game in 2022 — the eighth-fewest in the NFL. Miami would have to make some roster adjustments to free up the cap space, but they do have options to do so. It'd be worth the hassle considering how much of a boost Jacobs would provide to the Dolphins' attack. Instead of opponents anticipating the pass, they'd have to respect the backfield as well. If Tagovailoa can make a full recovery before the 2023 campaign, Miami could be an offensive juggernaut with Jacobs in the fold.

3. Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens' RB room was decimated by injuries last season. None of J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Kenyan Drake played more than 12 games, making the unit's health tough to trust going forward. With Drake hitting free agency while Edwards and Dobbins' contracts end after this season, Jacobs would provide Baltimore with a long-term solution. For starters, he's played at least 15 games in each of the last three seasons. Secondly, he'd take a huge load off QB Lamar Jackson's shoulders when it comes to the running game. While re-signing Jackson is priority No. 1, bringing in Jacobs helps solidify the Ravens as a championship threat — especially with their love of running the football.
