2023 USFL Playoffs Schedule, Format and Teams (Stallions Look to Repeat)

Updated:

After an exciting regular season, the 2023 USFL Playoffs are here. If you haven't paid much attention to the USFL this year, you're likely to have some questions about how the postseason works.

With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about the 2023 USFL Playoffs.

How Many Teams Make the USFL Playoffs?

The 2023 USFL season featured eight teams in action once again. However, only four teams qualified for the 2023 USFL Playoffs; the Birmingham Stallions, New Orleans Breakers, Michigan Panthers and Pittsburgh Maulers. These squads were either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in each division.

The Stallions enter the postseason as the defending champs after taking down Philadelphia in the 2022 championship game. They were a heavyweight once again in 2023 with an 8-2 record, which was the best mark in the entire league.

In the North division, the Maulers claimed the top seed with a win in the final week of the regular season, pushing their record to 4-6. Meanwhile, the Breakers (South) and Maulers (North) are the No. 2 seeds in each division.

USFL Playoffs Format 2023

The USFL Playoffs follow a simple format in 2023. The No. 1 seed in each division will face the No. 2 seed in the semifinals, and the winners advance to the championship. The top seeds, Birmingham and Pittsburgh, have home-field advantage against New Orleans and Michigan, respectively.
