The midway point of the 2023 NASCAR season is finally here, and that means the All-Star Race is officially upon us. Drivers will descend upon North Carolina this weekend in hopes of winning the showcase at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
Here's everything racing fans to know about the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race before it kicks off.
NASCAR All-Star Race Format 2023
A total of 24 drivers will participate in the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race. Twenty-one of these racers have already locked a spot up by virtue of winning an event during the 2022 or 2023 season, or previously winning an All-Star Race or Cup title while being a full-time driver.
The three other spots will be earned through the All-Star Open event that precedes the All-Star Race. The top two finishers qualify for the main event, along with the winner of the fan vote.
On Saturday, heat races will be held to determine the starting order for the All-Star Race. Then Sunday's festivities kick off with the All-Star Open at 5:30 p.m. ET to decide the final three spots in the main event. The All-Star Race follows at 8 p.m. ET.
NASCAR All-Star Weekend 2023
NASCAR All-Star Weekend in North Carolina is set to be a busy one. The festivities begin on Friday with a 50-minute practice starting at 4:05 p.m. ET. A pit-stop competition will follow, which is used to determine the starting order for Saturday's heat races and the starting order for Sunday's Open races.
Saturday's heats are scheduled to begin at 7:35 p.m. ET. These will be 60 laps each, with Heat 1 determining the inside row for the All-Star Race and Heat 2 setting the outside row.
The All-Star Open kicks off Sunday's racing fun. This 100-lap event will help decide the final three spots in the main event, with the two top finishers and the winner of the fan vote moving on.
