Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue: Odds, How to Watch Super Bantamweight Title Bout

Continuing boxing's most thrilling summer of the decade, the sport will next turn its eyes to the Land of the Rising Sun.

The WBC and WBO super-bantamweight titles will be up for grabs early Tuesday morning (July 25) at Ariake Arena in Tokyo when fellow undefeated fighters Naoya "The Monster" Inoue (24-0, 21 KO) and "Cool Boy" Stephen Fulton Jr. (21-0, 8 KO) enter the ring together.

As the main event of a nine-bout fight card, both boxers will have hardware and legacy on the line. Inoue is one of Japan's most celebrated fighters while the champ Fulton is looking to continue his divisional dominance.

Fighter History

Naoya Inoue

Fulton may be the current unified super-bantamweight champion, but it feels like Inoue is the A-side in this bout -- especially with the fight occurring in Inoue's native Japan.

At a diminutive size of 5-foot-5, Inoue has staggering punching power. He currently carries a devastating KO rate of 87.5% and has won 13 of his past 14 fights via stoppage.

Inoue is critically renowned for many abilities in the squared circle, including his power, speed, and timing. At the moment, the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board has Inoue as their top pound-for-pound fighter; Boxing Writers Associate of America and The Ring each have Inoue ranked second in respective P4P ratings.

For Inoue, Fulton will likely serve as his fiercest competition through 10-plus years of professional fights. Inoue will need to work deliberately with his punch flurries, keeping in mind that he gives up the height and reach advantage to Fulton. Still, Inoue is a -400 favorite against Fulton at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Stephen Fulton Jr.

Hailing from the gritty fight town of Philadelphia, Fulton has held the unified super-bantamweight accolade since November 2021 when he won a majority decision over Brandon Figueroa. Since then, Fulton has had one successful retention, defeating Daniel Roman in June 2022.

Fulton has not fought in over a calendar year, while Inoue was most recently in action last December (KO def. Paul Butler). A binary in sports as old as dirt -- will the extended time off lead to rest or rust from Fulton?

The tale of the tape in this bout favors Fulton. At 5-foot-7, Fulton's 70.5-inch reach is longer than Inoue's by three inches. Regardless, in reciprocating fashion, Fulton will see his toughest test to date with the fiery Inoue.

At +280 odds to retain his unified super-bantamweight titles, Fulton appears to have value in this market -- especially when you consider his undefeated record. Be that as it may, Fulton will head to Japan to attempt the feat on Inoue's home turf.
